What IS Interactive Art?
Some of you may be wondering what interactive art is, or what makes an artwork interactive or not? As defined by Wikipedia, "Interactive art is a genre of art in which the viewers participate in some way by providing an input." In more colloquial terms, this means that instead of an artist creating and finishing a project and then displaying it for others to see, interactive art allows for anyone to be the artist and be a part of the creation process of the project and for everyone to be the viewer as well.
Our goal for ImpactArt is to design site-specific (art projects that are constructed take place in a certain location) interactive art projects that are easily accessible for anyone in our HM community, and to cause those who take part in it to challenge their way of thinking or to open up their minds to how others view the world (hence the "Impact" part of the club name).
Here are some very interesting public interactive art projects that Billie and I are currently looking into for inspiration for projects for the club (these projects are actually SICKKK):
"To-Do" Post-it Project by illegal art
"The Last Word" Project by illegal art (I realize the description is a little lengthy, so if you want to just get a quick idea of what that project is just read the middle paragraph)
I Wish Your Wish by Rivane Neuenschwander (exhibition at display at the New Museum)
